What Did Your Childhood Look Like?
A very happy childhood, playing in the streets and surfing with my friends. Every day we had a new adventure.
What Came First, Surfing or Photography?
Hmmmm, they probably came at the same time when I was around 12 years old. But, surfing came first over surf photography, I used to take pictures of my friends and holidays
How Did You Get Into Surf Photography?
After years making "pause" on my vhs tapes I discovered the passion of surf photography. I started with a analog camera shooting my friends on various surf trips, later down the line I began working with Portuguese surf magazines.
Where Do You Normally Shoot?
Around Lisbon, but I'm always hunting for a strike mission around the globe!
Where Do You Shoot? Water or Land?
I shoot both, it depends of the waves and the mood. Sometimes i like to swim and shoot from the water, other times I love to search for new angles and walk around the cliffs, listen to my music and enjoy life.
What Makes The Perfect Image?
The composition and light, for sure! With bad light is hard to have a perfect image.
I try to shoot early in the morning and at the sunset, sometimes the waves are better at lunch time, so I have to search a angle with better light. But is hard to get a perfect image, when we think the image is perfect we stop searching for perfection.
How Did You Become So Involved In The Surf Scene?
I'm a surfer since 12 years old, and also a photographer so when I had to start working from 9 to 6pm it felt like I was in prison in the office. So surf photography gave me the strength to try a new life outside the 4 walls!
Do You Have A Favourite Photographer That Has Inspired You?
I have a lot. Chris Burkard is an inspiration for the images he produces and for all that he achieves in the surf scene. My friends who are photographers are a great inspiration also!
We have a collective called SALITRE, where we publish a book every year!
These guys are my biggest inspiration.
What's Your Biggest Challenge To Overcome When Shooting?
I'm unsure, I just want to have fun! I.m often not dazzled by my images, I think I can always do better and improve.

Personal Message
I wish the brands gave the true value of photographers. We make the dream alive, but in the industry we are the guys that work real hard and make little money to survive.
Every surf trip is my favourite, the joy of travel with friends and to do what I love most, is priceless.
I have worked with Volcom since 2008 and I feel part of the family.
